The Queue

with one comment

The queue had formed, they told me, because the cashpoint was paying out. Like a fruit machine. But instead of putting coins in, you used your card, and the receipt said your balance remained the same.

So we shuffled forward and typed in our PINs and waved at the CCTV camera and took out forty, one hundred, two hundred pounds.

And we’ll get our statements through some day soon and maybe these withdrawals will show up and maybe they won’t. But in the meantime none of us – not a single one – intends to think about it.

  1. At least you waved at the camera – that will stand you in good stead, to be sure.
